Foreign Advice for Courier Work

There are plenty of great reasons to seek international courier work: travel to new places, experience of different cultures and a general opportunity to see some new towns, cities, landscapes and landmarks to break up the monotony of the roads in Britain. The chance to drive through actual mountains and sprawling forests must make a change from chugging your way through Staffordshire - though no one should deny the unique charms of Lichfield.

If you get the opportunity to take up courier work that involves travel to the continent then you should grab it with both hands, but here are some things to bear in mind when you roll out onto foreign tarmac.

Give Us a Clue
It can often be difficult communicating with someone when neither of you speak the other's language, but you want to be very careful when resorting to charades in another country. You'd be surprised by how many of the gestures you think are obvious are actually very culturally specific. In fact, in Bulgaria the locals shake their heads for 'yes' and nod for 'no' - that should keep courier work in the country nice and interesting for you! Take your time, use maps and try to ensure as far as possible that you are understood and that you understand.

We don't do it like that in Britain
Quite possibly not, but there are probably many things that are different back in old Blighty - if you're not actually in Britain then this is a completely academic point. It doesn't really have anything to do with anything how things are done in another country, you're a guest and when it's someone else's house, it's their rules. The 'we don't do it like that in Britain' attitude can give the Brits a very bad name and will lead to you receiving resentment and less cooperation than would be ideal. If you want an easy life during your courier work, make sure you tailor your behaviour to suit the host culture.

I'll sort this mess out
When people do something differently, it doesn't necessarily mean they're doing something worse - and they really don't like to think that their alternative approach constitutes 'a mess'. Even if things do seem to be going awry, the route to success usually involves diplomacy. If you insult someone they'll be far less willing to help you fix a situation. People of all nationalities make mistakes - don't for a moment suggest that it is due to being 'typically' of a specific nationality that they have caused problems for you.

Courier Work Tips - Staying Alert on the Road

If you do courier work you'll be driving for a large part of every day you spend at work. Your workplace is comprised of the roads in your particular area. Even though you may know them well, you won't necessarily be the safest driver to use them.

However there is a lot you can do to ensure you stay as safe as possible and remain alert the whole time you are behind the wheel. If you want some tips in this respect keep reading - you might learn a thing or two!

Drink little and often
You'll no doubt want plenty of coffee or tea to kick start your day when you prepare to tackle the first jobs comprising your courier work for the day. This is good as it will wake you up and keep you feeling fresh and alert. However you shouldn't drink them quickly. Make them last and you will feel the effects of the caffeine without feeling bloated from excessive consumption. Drinking water little and often is also good, because it will prevent you getting headaches which can be caused by too little in the way of fluids.

Keep the windows open
This doesn't really apply in the middle of winter, but even then you can keep them cracked open a small amount to let a little fresh air in. If you have air conditioning and you are feeling tired while doing your courier work, switch it on and enjoy the fresh blast of cold air. It'll only take a minute or two to feel the benefits.

Make the most of the time you are out of your vehicle
One of the advantages of courier work is that you won't spend all your time driving around. You'll be delivering parcels and other important items as well, so you will be hopping in and out of your vehicle on a regular basis too. You can use this time to your advantage to make sure you stay alert. For example, if you have to go beyond the ground floor in a building, use the stairs instead of opting for the lift. This will ensure you get fitter and it will help you reduce the amount of time you feel tired for anyway. Even the odd jog from door to door can help you feel more alert, rather than trudging there and feeling lethargic for it.

As you can see it is really just a matter of changing the way you do things. There are plenty of other things you can do as well, such as playing loud music and nibbling at things little and often rather than eating a large meal at lunchtime then wondering why you feel so tired in the afternoon. A lot of it is common sense, but as you can see from the tips above, it is all about simple things done regularly too.

Sneak Peek: 2013 Honda Accord

You can't blame Honda for holding its next generation Accord close to the vest. The popular Accord is one of the longest lasting and most recognized model names in America, a five passenger midsize sedan or coupe that is also a best-seller. For 2013 the Accord is all new, a model that is slightly smaller on the outside, larger on the inside and offers fresh styling for a design in much need of an update. Honda has released more details about this model, information that we'll share here with you.

Long-Lasting Name

There aren't too many midsize vehicles that are sold in sedan and coupe configurations with Honda having one such model and Nissan, with its Altima, another model. The Accord nameplate goes back nearly 40 years to when the first model was introduced stateside. That vehicle was a compact model, the second Honda automobile sold in the U.S. after the Civic. Today, the Civic is a compact and the Accord is a midsize model.

Seating five passengers, the ninth generation Accord seeks to build on the strengths of the earlier models. This vehicle will come in slightly smaller and lighter than the eighth generation Accord, in a bid to deliver improved fuel efficiency in a segment dominated by fuel efficient sedans such as the Toyota Camry, the Nissan Altima, the Hyundai Sonata and Ford's Fusion. What Honda hasn't said yet are what engines will be offered, but it has said that a continuously variable transmission will be available, a first for this line. A CVT should help Honda enjoy improved fuel economy, perhaps matching the Sonata's 35 mpg highway or even approaching the Altima's segment-leading 38 mpg highway.

Sneak Peek

Four new images of the Honda Accord were released, showing us a model that is stylish, sporty and elegant. The 2013 Accord features a bold, new grille with a sporty hood and sweeping body lines. The coupe has the sportier look with side skirting and color-keyed side mirrors flowing back to a tapered rear deck with a built-in spoiler. Dual chrome exhaust tips give this vehicle a premium look and will likely appeal to sporting enthusiasts.

The Accord's athletic stance is certainly a change for a vehicle that was long on quality and value, but short on handsome good looks. Honda paid much attention to detail when crafting its next generation Accord, bringing in tapered fenders, flowing C-pillars and contoured rocker panels to suggest a car that is always on the move.

Unknown Amenities

What we can't tell you about just yet are the engine choices this model will offer. A four cylinder will be standard and it seems likely that an optional V-6 engine will also be offered. Technological enhancements may include safety updates as well as improvements to its audio system, navigation package and Internet connectivity. Those details should be released just as the 2013 Honda Accord goes on sale this fall.

With a new Accord in the mix, Honda has strong competitors in each of the three main car selling categories. Its Fit is a leading subcompact and the Civic is one of the best selling cars in America. In the Accord, Honda hopes to recapture some of the sales this model has lost in recent years; judging by the look of the new Accord it seems that it'll succeed in this endeavor.

Courier Work Tips - Sitting Comfortably in your Office

Gloomy decades

Nobody in the courier business needs to be reminded that the nation's (and global) economic troubles started way back at the tail end of 2007. Over the years since, things have staggered from an occasional flicker-of-hope to new despair. Economies around the globe have stagnated with tiny growth rates or even drifted back into double-dip recessions. There appears to be little prospect of an end in sight and even the more optimistic forecasters (and there are precious few of those) see this continuing for perhaps several more years. Historians and economists are still arguing about definitions and measures, but many people are now saying that this series of economic disasters and stagnation are as bad as the 1930s, even if their social effects are not as severe - at least so far.

What's causing it?

Economists and politicians work themselves into a frenzy trying to say what exactly is to blame and the usual suspects are regularly wheeled out including:

• the Euro;
• the banking crisis;
• the commercial and personal debt crises;
• other political parties;
• banks not lending to businesses.

These 'experts' haven't yet got around to blaming astrological configurations but no doubt they'll get around to it in due course! Yet what is rarely if ever discussed is just how big a factor a total loss of business and social/consumer confidence is now playing in the continuing economic stagnation. It is possible to find some voices in business who are now starting to sound a little bit more positive about the future over, say, the next 1-3 years - though they are still more than offset by those who are negative or at best, guardedly neutral.

Unfortunately, the position is even worse when speaking to consumers and 'the public'.

Here confidence about the future of the economy continues to bump-along at rock bottom. Given that ultimately it is the consumer, here and overseas, that drives the economy, extreme pessimism in this sector is arguably the biggest factor that is suppressing economic growth.

What can be done?

Much intellectual effort and money continues to be invested in macro-economic attempts to "get things going". Examples include quantitative easing and business investment plans. Laudable as those are, they may be doing little or nothing for consumer confidence. Knowing that a given bank's balance sheet now looks healthier following an injection of government cash is hardly likely to get Mr or Mrs Average clicking their heels with joy and rushing out to buy that new car or washing machine!

In fact, the dire and gloomy warnings from government about "yet more hard times to come" coupled with tax increases, benefit reductions, a very shaky housing market and ever-increasing job insecurity, are all likely to push people even more towards battening down the storm hatches and putting their wallets/purses away.

That has a direct negative effect on everything - including the humble and hard-working courier. What is needed to re-ignite the economy may be rather less macro-economic theory and manipulation but more injection of optimism (and cash) into the sharp end of the economy - the consumer. That would then benefit everybody across the board - including those in the business of courier work.

The Economy - What It Means For the Courier

Transmission Repair in Your Small Town

Living in a small town has its perks. You can get up in the morning, drive to town, and know most of the people you see. You can go to the local coffee shop and catch up on the latest town info while you drink your coffee. In the big city, you probably will not have this luxury. When you drive to town, you might not see one person you know. At the coffee shop, perhaps you can catch up on the latest news by reading the newspaper, and you are pretty much able to keep to yourself.

People in small towns will often extol the benefits of their communities, but undoubtedly, the conversation will find its way to the limitations of not living in a city, including lack of businesses. Living in a small town, though, you often have options when it comes to things like transmission repair and other things most people will need. Perhaps there is the local mechanic that everyone knows, but there also may be a local franchise transmission repair shop. You might feel obligated to go to the mechanic owned by people you know, but you should go with the one that has the qualities you are looking for.

You might not know what to look for in this type of mechanic. You should definitely look for someone who has done numerous transmission repair jobs; some shops even specialize in these parts. You should also look at the prices they charge compared to other shops in the area. Also be sure to look around the country at the franchise represented in your town. Find out what their standards are, whether their prices seem fair, and what others have said about the franchise as a whole and the shop in your town.

After you have done your investigations, you should have enough information to pick the right place to take your vehicle for basic mechanical and transmission repair work. If you are ever not satisfied with your choice, you can always choose another. So whether you choose the big franchise or the small local business, you will probably find both to be a good option for your car's issues.

If your car is showing signs of needing some transmission repair done, ask around town or call a few shops to see which car mechanic will fit your needs. Hopefully you will make the right choice and be able to drive away with a car that is in top shape. Small towns may not have all of the huge shopping centers that you find in larger areas, but there should still be numerous options when it comes to auto mechanics and transmission specialists.

Innovative Cost-Cutting Ideas for Courier Jobs

Even if you have been doing owner driver jobs for some time, you may not be fully equipped to make the most of every day you spend on the road. A little advance planning can make all the difference between struggling through the day and enjoying every moment of it.

So with that in mind, here are some pointers you can think about when you are out and about doing owner driver jobs.

Always pack snacks

Owner driver jobs mean you can drive for miles in a single day. You can't do that without eating something, but there is no reason to resort to unhealthy snacks such as chocolate bars. If you want a mood-enhancing snack to rely on, make sure you pack easy to eat fruit and vegetable sticks, as well as healthy nuts.

Have an in car charger for your mobile phone

There is nothing worse than realising you forgot to charge your phone the night before and having it run down on you while you are on the road. Make sure your forgetfulness never gets in the way of a job well done - get an in-car charger that slots into your cigarette lighter socket. This means you can charge your phone while you are driving.

Carry spare change

You never know when you might need cash for something when doing owner driver jobs. It's fine to carry a note or two, but there is no substitute for a few odd coins. This is particularly true if you live or work near a toll road of some kind. Always make sure you have some in the car, but don't keep any of it in plain sight.

Always have a collection of spare ballpoint pens

One pen is never enough. There are always occasions when a customer signs for an item and then walks off with your pen without even thinking about it. If you only have the one pen and you don't realise it is missing until half a mile up the road, you'll be stuck. So be prepared.

Always have a bottle of water on hand

You need to keep hydrated if you want to maintain a good attention span and alertness - important if you are driving for much of the day. Pop a bottle of water in the freezer overnight and take it out to take with you the next morning when you leave for work. This is the best way to ensure you have a cold drink on hand to sip all day. Coffee and tea are fine too, but you'll end up with headaches if that is all you drink all day.

If you employ these few tips to ensure you are prepared for most things, you'll have a much nicer day behind the wheel than you may have otherwise.

Courier Work Tips - Getting a Good Night's Sleep

Some people seem able to sleep exceptionally well every single night, no matter what time they go to bed. Others continually struggle to get a good night's sleep. Which one of these best describes you? If you do courier work it is a good idea to ensure you know how to get the best night's sleep every night, because you may well have an early start most mornings.

Here are some tips you can use to help you sleep better every night. This in turn will make you feel fresher on a daily basis.

Try and stick to the same hours every day

If you work Mondays to Fridays you'll know how hard it can be to get to sleep on a Sunday evening - not to mention the difficulty of getting up early on Monday morning. This leaves you tired before the week of courier work has even started. It is usually better to try and go to bed at roughly the same time every evening if you can.

Ease off the caffeine and drink more water

When you do courier work you need to stay alert for the entire day. Caffeine is fine to drink in the mornings but if you stick to drinks with caffeine in them all day you're more likely to have trouble sleeping. Some people prefer to drink caffeinated drinks in the morning but switch to decaf from the afternoons onwards. Try and fit in more water too - it makes you feel more alert and is more likely to banish those sluggish feelings.

Make sure you wind down in the evenings

It is one thing to get some exercise after work, but it is quite another to focus on getting that exercise a little later in the evening. You need adequate time to wind down and relax before you actually climb into bed. This might mean enjoying a nice bath or perhaps reading a book for a while. Turn off your mobile and try to limit distractions during this time if you can.

Don't eat late at night

Ideally you should eat a few hours before you go to bed, otherwise you will increase the odds of a sleepless night. You are also more likely to get indigestion which can also keep you awake. Some people fare better if they drink warm milk or camomile tea just before they go to bed - but make sure you resist any urges to snack!

Courier work can be demanding. It certainly requires you to be alert and to have enjoyed a good sleep the night before. So if you happen to work in this field, make sure you follow the tips above to ensure you wake up feeling refreshed every morning. If you haven't been sleeping well you might be surprised how much better you feel if you do.

Driving Lessons For Under 17 Year Olds

The Early Bird Driving Scheme or Young Driver Scheme is a relatively new concept which has the government's backing as well as numerous motoring organisations, as they can all see the benefits in improved driving safety as well as resulting in potentially better trained drivers from a young age.

This scheme is open to under 17 year olds and takes place on private grounds and not on public roads, there are clubs as well as professional driving instructors providing training, clubs provide training in all aspects of motoring for ages from 11 to 17, these not only include learning to drive but also car control in a secure environment, car maintenance, basic as well as advanced mechanics and numerous other aspects of car maintenance. Driving instructors concentrate mainly on the car control aspect as well as in driving techniques, these lessons are proving to be more and more popular and by the time a trainee is ready for driving on a public road, they already have a good notion of what to expect as well as how to behave and to be in control of the vehicle in a safe manner.

The feedback from driving instructors as well as from students has been positive, instructors have commented in the fact that those taking lessons before going on public roads tend to pass their driving test with fewer lessons, whilst students comment on the fact that they felt more confident in driving on public roads especially when dealing with traffic particularly driving in towns.

There is the other aspect which has to also be taken into consideration, as there is an alternative school of thought on this matter that claims that the downside to drivers passing their driving test after fewer lessons may pose a risk due to lacking in experience as far as in number of hours driving on a public road is concerned. Their argument is that whilst it is good to offer training from a younger age and to encourage good habits to all new drivers before being placed in a real life situation on a public road, the downside to it being that if the average learner driver has fewer hours of driving experience on the public road and pass their test with fewer lessons, this may have a counter effect on road safety in general. The fact is that as a scheme it remains to be proven and this can only take time, early indications seem to show that it is beneficial and that it encourages confidence to young drivers.

Simply Driving Lessons is a leading Surrey driving school covering the areas of Redhill, Reigate, South Nutfields, Horley, Merstham and surrounding areas.

Offering some of the most competitive driving lessons rates in the local areas and impressive pass rates, they also have fully qualified ADI driving instructors including female driving instructors. Simply Driving Lessons specialise in a range of driving courses and lessons including intensive driving courses, Check Test training, Pass Plus driving lessons as well as standard driving lessons for all learner drivers, no matter their age.

How To Choose An Appropriate Driving Instructor

Once you have reached the legal age to start learning to drive or even if you are of a more mature age and decided to take up driving later on in life, the importance in choosing the right driving instructor remains equally as important. You can contract the services of a driving instructor using their vehicle to teach you to drive or alternatively an appropriately qualified individual whom you can trust will provide you with the correct information about driving on a public road. It's also important that they can instruct you in the correct manner without passing on their bad driving which they may have acquired during their driving history.
A qualified driving instructor may prove to be a better option as they are professionally trained and teach to an adequate standard which a driving examiner would expect to find in any potential new motorist if they are to pass their driving test. These standards relate to road safety, knowledge of the Highway Code, being courteous and demonstrating correct control over the vehicle at all times whilst of course respecting the law.

Finding a qualified driving instructor is not too hard as most towns have a local driving instructor and many times word of mouth and recommendation is the best way to find one, however, if this is not the case, then there are a number of qualifications to look out for such as:

Are they ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) Qualified - A fully qualified ADI Instructor MUST display their ADI green card on the windscreen, there is also a pink cards which relate to driving instructor trainees, either way, these credentials MUST be displayed. If neither of these cards are on display; it is advisable to ask the instructor to show you their card, if they are not able to do so, and they claim to be ADI qualified, you can report this to the DSA as they are the governing body in charge of ADI licensing. In order to obtain an ADI license, the candidate has to pass a rigorous theory test as well as a being able to pass a test in which they can demonstrate that they are capable to giving out instructions as well as having passed a criminal check. In addition to this, they have to demonstrate on a regular basis that their standards are up to scratch at all times.

It is important that you feel comfortable with your driving instructor or the person who is teaching you to drive, people have different preferences in the way in which they learn and the way in which they receive instructions, perhaps to err on the side of caution, it may be better to pay for one or two lessons to start off with rather than for a whole block only to find that you don't get on with your instructor or find his methods of teaching not satisfactory.

Sneak Peek: 2013 Chevrolet Spark

Do you like mini cars? This category includes the Smart Fortwo as well some more recent additions including the Fiat 500 and the Scion iQ. A fourth model has joined the fray this year, Chevrolet's Spark, a 2013 model that is short on stature and big on value, just the sort of car that first-time car buyers may want. Let's take a look at the newest car in the Chevrolet model range and whether the Spark is right for you.

Spark Essentials

First things first -- just what is the Spark? Well, it is a four-seat model that looks like a three-door, but is actually a five-door model with a hatchback. This model features vibrant colors and is built in Korea, by GM's manufacturing plant there.

The Chevy Spark comes surprisingly well-equipped for a car that is priced from $12,995. Standard equipment includes a segment-leading 10 airbags, air conditioning, an audio system, four upholders, two bottle holders, a rear window defogger and a rear cargo lamp. This model also comes with GM's OnStar Directions and Connections plan, offering a 6-month subscription for no charge. A power outlet, a tilt steering wheel column, storage compartments and a tire pressure monitoring system are included. Yes, power windows are also standard.

Engine and Transmission

Under the hood, this model is powered by a 1.2-liter four cylinder engine that makes 84 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 83 foot pounds of torque at 4,200 rpm. GM pairs this engine with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy ranges from 28 mpg city, 32 mpg highway for the automatic to 32 mpg city, 38 mpg highway for manual.

The Spark sits on 15-inch all-season tires and is outfitted with sporty five-split spoke silver painted aluminum wheels or machined gray painted wheels. Four-channel anti-lock brakes with brake assist, electronic stability control and hill start assist are among the safety features offered.

Spark Dimensions

Tiny on the outside, the Spark makes good use of interior room offering ample head and leg room and up to 31.2 cubic feet of cargo room. This model sits on a 93.5-inch wheelbase and measures 144.7 inches long by 62.9 inches wide. With a curb weight from 2,237 pounds it is also one of the lightest models on the market.

Will the Chevy Spark rock your world? It could if you like tiny cars and have a budget limited to a vehicle costing $15,000 or less. The Spark is yet another mini car in a segment that is barely getting noticed, but may get a much needed boost from a car that is cute, affordable and comes equipped with GM's reliable Ecotec engine technology.

The 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid Under Review

Camry seems set to make a comeback with its all-new and improved 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid. As a family-size sedan, the first Camry had set an impressive benchmark for mileage.

Features of the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid

Available in two trim levels, the LE and XLE trim, the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid has several features that have been revamped to produce a top performance vehicle. These features include:

1. A 200 horsepower capability made possible by the revamped Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain that has a slightly larger 2.5 liter Atkinson-cycle four cylinder engine. The engine also has a 105 kilowatt electric motor and these features combine to give the vehicle 13 hp more than it had last year. The Atkinson-cycle engine yields a little less power output and compensates by being more fuel efficient and giving off less emmissions. Overall, the vehicle has a fuel efficiency rating of 43/39 mpg EPA delivering a combined average of 41 mpg.

2. The 2012 Toyota can be operated on either electric or gasoline or both. The vehicle is equipped with a new EV-mode button that allows the driver to operate the hybrid in pure electric mode as long as the speed does not excel 25 miles per hour. Toyota gives the maximum battery-only range as 1.6 miles.

3. The 2012 Camry Hybrid is fuel-efficient with the XLE, which is rated a bit lower than the LE, yielding an efficiency of 40 miles per gallon during a mixed drive. Overall, the 2012 vehicle has a fuel efficiency rating of 43/39 mpg EPA, delivering a combined average of 41 mpg.

The energy impact score for the vehicle stands at a consumption of 8.3 barrels of oil per year, while the carbon footprint stands only at an annual emission of 4.6 tons of CO2.

One of the major factors that cause a vehicle to use a lot of fuel is its weight. The weight of the 2012 Toyota has been cut by 250 pounds. The size and weight of the battery by itself was trimmed as a part of the weight reduction.

4. Camry's Hybrid sports 17-inch low rolling resistance tires that grip the pavement to yield efficiency.

5. The Car is also equipped with Toyota's Entune infotainment system, which relies on a smartphone data connection for certain apps to operate on the large touch screen. The data connection runs apps such as Bing and Pandora on the touch screen. Entune is free for three years, then it becomes available at a monthly cost of $5. It will eventually run other programs such as OpenTable and MovieTickets.com.

The Driving Experience

The 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid gives a smooth, quiet drive as it moves seamlesly, neither seen nor heard, unless it comes upon speed traps. When the vehicle comes upon a bump in the road, the gasoline engine kicks in, and this is the only disruption to the seamless ride. The 2012 hybrid drives pretty much like the brand new gas powered 2012 Camry.

Vehicle Transportation Services - Questions and Answers

When it comes transporting a vehicle with help of vehicle transport company, some experienced people may not but most customers would always want to know answer of all their questions. Customers ask these questions to know process involved in shipping cars as well as reliability of the auto transporter. Here are some of the common and frequent questions being asked by customers while dealing with vehicle transportation companies:

How long will it take to ship my car?

The time it takes to ship your car usually depends on destined area as well as number of vehicles being transported at a time. In addition, it may be delayed in case of any mishap or crisis scenarios i.e. bad weather, traffic jams and other roadside dangers.

How can I know that my car transporter is legitimate?

No company is allowed to operate without permission of US Department of Transportation and Federal Moving Carrier and Safety Administration. Therefore, to determine legitimacy and reliability of your auto transport company, you should check it with these federal agencies. It will enable you to know whether is registered or not. In addition, by this verification, you will be able to check safety record, which will help you to make right decision.

How much does it cost to ship a car?

The auto shipping rates vary company to company. However, basic factors such as car carriers, car delivery services, vehicle shipping insurance, and vehicle tracking system play an important role in determining the cost of vehicle shipping services. However, one must not worry about it much as car transport services often cost less than transporting vehicle on your own, when it is required to move to a far location.

Do I always need separate insurance for vehicle shipping?

The answer to this question depends on your own vehicle shipping insurance. If it covers your car for auto transportation, no need for paying extra. However, if it does not, you should get a car shipping insurance to ensure your vehicle is transported safely during transport process.

What do I need to follow for preparing vehicle for transportation process?

It includes numerous things to consider but making sure the vehicle is in perfect running order is important. In case, you want to ship an out of order vehicle, you should inform the auto transporter before so that it can arrange safety measures accordingly. Moreover, you should not ship personal belongings along with car as if they are stolen or misplaced, you cannot claim because your car shipping insurance does not cover these things.

What is the best method for transporting vehicle?

For interstate auto moving, open and enclosed car transportation methods are used. Both are best for transporting vehicles across country. It depends on your vehicle shipping requirements especially on type of vehicle required to move and your budget. Being a frequent and traditional way of transportation, open car transportation is used frequently. However, for transporting a classic car, enclosed car carriers should be preferred.

Tales - Strange Wrappings

Read as you go?

You might be surprised at how often people shipping personal effects, sometimes including items that are both fragile and valuable, are handed over to the driver packed in nothing but newspaper. Of course, many professionals in the courier industry wouldn't dream of accepting anything so inappropriately packed, but some might be tempted by the thought of having some additional reading material to pass the time while munching that sandwich. Trouble is, you inevitably find the paper is at least two years old.

TARDIS in reverse

One motorcycle courier was asked to collect a small package and upon arrival was greeted with a huge wooden crate that although being very light was never going to go onto his bike. Anyone with experience of two wheel or light van work will have been here many times before - sadly it's not an unusual situation. What made this one odd though was that the customer, showing great flexibility, simply open up the crate and removed the relatively sturdy internal box that contained the item. The size of the internal box? You guessed it - about that of a shoebox. The shipper has to be given 10/10 for security of packing if perhaps 1/10 for practicality!

Taking care seriously

One haulier stopped to collect a relatively small if heavy carton. To his surprise it was wrapped in what appeared to be a Union Jack. When questioned, the consignor's response was: "the contents are fragile and I know that if it's wrapped in the flag people will handle it with more respect". Well, it's an interesting theory!

Packaging going cheap

Another courier consignment was stated as being 75 kilos and of dimensions similar to a large suitcase. The driver was, therefore, surprised to see that the object had been completed wrapped in crushed egg cartons held together with tape. These were falling off even before the object had been loaded! The consignor said they were heavily into re-cycling, though what they said when the driver refused to accept it isn't recorded.

Pump up the pressure

As a final piece of audacity mixed with optimism, one driver arrived with his van to collect a small 30-kilo water pump. To his dismay, he discovered upon arrival that this was entirely unpacked and the consignor seemed amazed that this was an issue. Fortunately, he was a lateral thinker and simply asked the driver: "don't you have a carrier bag or something I can put it in?"

Many courier organisations have clearly stated packing requirements that are stipulated as part of taking on the job. Clearly the message doesn't always get through!

Nissan to Build More Rogues for the US Market in South Korea

Nissan has currently come up with a unique decision to boost the production of Nissan Rogues that they would be selling in the United States and in some of its market in South Korea. Based on the reports, Nissan has finalized its plan of using Renault-Samsung's underutilized assembling plant located in Busan province in South Korea to produce more US and South Korean bound Rogues.

To realize this move, Nissan would be investing a total of $160 million into the assembling plant in Busan province through a contract with the Korean conglomerate Samsung. By investing this amount, Samsung agreed to handle the annual production of about 80,000 units of Nissan Rogues. A large percentage of these vehicles will then be exported to boost Nissan's supply of this crossover in the United States while the remaining ones will be marketed in South Korea.

Nissan has decided to implement this policy since all of the Nissan Rogues that are currently sold in the US imported from Japan and the strengthening of the value of the Japanese yen in the global market has increased the production cost of the each vehicle thereby reducing the amount of profits that the company would possibly earn from these.

But aside from its production in South Korea, Nissan will also start producing about 100,000 to 120,000 units of the Rogue in the company's facility in Smyrna, Tennessee next year. Due to this, a lot of car experts believe that the Nissan Rogues produced by the company's South Korean and US-based plants will be enough to meet the sales target that Nissan has set for this crossover.

Many car experts also believe that Nissan's move to increase the number of Nissan Rogue produced by splitting its production between the Busan and the Smyrna plant was triggered by the increase in demand for this crossover. Nissan might have realized that more and more car buyers are starting to consider the Rogue as one of their top vehicle options and this trend could possibly led to scarcity in supply of the crossover when handled inappropriately.

Since the company's plans were already finalized, its Smyrna plant will start building the Nissan Rogue early next year while the Renault-Samsung factory in Busan, South Korea will start its production in 2014. As soon as the Tennessee and the South Korean plant would be able to ram up their production of the Rogue Nissan will then cease its production of this crossover in Japan.

2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible Will Debut in November's LA Auto Show

Volkswagen has finally confirmed that the company will be unveiling the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show this November. Unfortunately, Volkswagen has not yet provided the public with the images of the upcoming drop top version of the 2013 Beetle.  Due to this, a lot of speculations as to how the convertible would look like started to circulate.

Instead of providing the public with the images of the upcoming convertible, Volkswagen group of America has also confirmed that this vehicle will be offered with three types of engine which includes the 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine, 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, and the 2.0-liter TDI clean diesel engine.

Aside from the announcement made, Volkswagen has also provided the public with the powertrain list. The list has confirmed that the release of the convertible version of the Beetle should not be taken as a sign that the rumored electric Beetle will soon be released on the market. This is because the list does not include nor mentioned anything about the "E-Bugster".

The E-Bugster is considered as the electric Beetle concept. This concept car was shown at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show and the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. Since the vehicle has appeared on the two popular and prestigious auto shows, a lot of car buyers started to believe that this concept car will hit the company's production line and make it to the dealerships this year. Unfortunately, their beliefs were wrong. Due to this, most of those who are expecting for the release of the electric version of the Beetle were left with no options but to wait.

Since Volkswagen failed to release even a single image of the upcoming 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible, many car experts and even buyers assumed that the this version would most likely be lowered than the 2012 version of the Beetle. In addition to this, they also believed that the convertible would probably have a chopped windshield and a folding soft top. But aside from these unique characteristics, these individuals also believe that the convertible's shape would still be similar to what the other Volkswagen Beetle models have.

As soon as the convertible hits the automobile market, the vehicle  is expected to create a strong impact in its segment since a lot of buyers are very much interested with the upcoming version of the Beetle. Due to this, Volkswagen's engineers and vehicle developers are doing their best to equip the Beetle with all of the best features that they could to ensure that the potential buyers will not be disappointed with the convertible's overall characteristics.

2012 Nissan Leaf Limousine Makes Its Official Debut

The 2012 Nissan Leaf was once again used as a new type of vehicle which no one has previously imagined it would. This time, the latest version of the Leaf was modified to look like a limousine and used as shuttle vehicle of a hotel located in Nashville, Tennessee. The limousine version was revealed a few months after the first police version of the Nissan Leaf was unveiled in Portugal last July.

Based on the information provided by reliable sources, the Limo version of the Leaf was created by a Missouri-based company after they were contracted by the Embassy Suites Nashville South hotel to produce such vehicle. In order to cope up with the specs that the hotel has set, the Missouri-based company made a few modifications on the original setup of the 2012 Nissan Leaf.

According to Nissan, the modification has added about 400 lbs of weight on the vehicle. The limo is also using a single battery pack and this is currently installed on the back of the vehicle. This setup was specifically made to improve the vehicle's balance and at the same time make the modification process quite simple. In addition to this, the additional 400 lbs of weight were concentrated on the vehicle's center and this was intended to provide more room inside the car and stretch its maximum seating capacity.

In order to make the modified Leaf look like the other limousines, the company that was contracted to modify it has filled the vehicle's interior with cedar paneling, they also added a number of mirrors inside, and changed the Leaf's seat covers with soft leather to make the cabin look upscale as well as elegant. Although the vehicle's room retained its white color, the modification has changed the material used in this area into vinyl.

But despite of the modifications and changes that were made on the 2012 Nissan Leaf to turn this into a limousine, Nissan has not provided any negative remarks. This is because the essential components and layout of the Leaf has remained intact. Nissan might have seen this as an opportunity to show the buying public that the Leaf is versatile and could be converted to other types of vehicle without necessarily changing its overall mechanism.

As of the present, the limousine version of the Leaf is used as a shuttle service for guests who would travelling at a distance of less than five miles from the hotel's exact location. In addition to this, the limo version of the Leaf is currently considered as the first licensed and reliable electric limousine that could be legally driven on the streets.

Used Car Buying Pros and Cons

Buying a used car offers a lot of benefits and at the same time a few risks. So, if you are planning to buy a used vehicle either from a private seller or from one of the used car dealerships in your area, make sure to do your homework first prior to the actual purchase. It would be better for you to conduct the needed research and determine that existing pros and cons involved. Make sure to weigh the pros and cons before doing the actual payout. In order to help you assess things up, this hub provides some of the advantages and disadvantages of buying a used car such as the following.

Used Car Buying Pros

1. Used cars are cheaper

One of the most obvious advantages that buying a used car could provide is the cheap price. Most buyers prefer to purchase used cars since these are thousands of dollars cheaper than the brand new ones. This is the main reason why buyers with limited budget opt to purchase vehicles that are about two to three years old. These buyers don't really need to spend that much in order to buy what they want. They could also maximize the savings from doing such if they know how to look for the cheapest used car model in some of the dealerships' lot.

2. You might end up buying a well-equipped model

Buying a used car is also advantageous since the chance of finding a previously-owned car which is loaded with a lot of features especially those that are offered as optional items for the latest models. The good thing is that, you will no longer be required to provide additional payments for these extra features since the seller will just require you to meet the selling price that he has attached on his vehicle. This particular condition is not possible when buying a brand new model since every optional features included on the vehicle have their own prices and each of these are added up to the final sticker price of the new car.

3. Allows you to save on insurance costs

Finally, buying a used car could help you reduce the insurance cost. Brand new car models are usually sold with full insurance coverage as one of the requirement and this is quite expensive. Buying a used car on the other hand allows you to select the insurance coverage that you would be paying. Due to this, you can only secure a policy which involves the coverage that you think is necessary and a good example of this is the liability insurance coverage. Thus, you are given the chance to earn a significant amount of savings from reduced insurance costs.

Used Car Buying Cons

1. Used cars depreciate fast

Most car experts will not encourage buyers to purchase used cars since these vehicles depreciates fast. Based on recent calculations, majority of the brand new car models lose almost 47 percent of their real value in the first three years. After the next three years, the vehicle will further depreciate by 18 percent and based on this, you will most likely have a hard time selling the used car that you have purchased when needed. What's worse is that you might end up earning zero profit when you decide to sell this.

2. You might end up buying a lemon

Another disadvantage of buying a used car is the greater possibility that you might end up buying a lemon or a vehicle with a poor running condition. Since the car was used by the previous owner for a few years before you purchased it, some of the vehicle's component might have been damaged and before you know it you already paid the entire amount. Due to this, you will be incurring higher maintenance and repair expenses instead of earning a lot of savings from buying a vehicle at a cheaper price.

3. Used cars are not covered by warranties

Finally, buying a used car is not always advisable since this is not covered by warranties. In the event that the vehicle breaks down or is in need of major repairs, you will end up spending more since you will shoulder all of the expenses involved in having it repaired.

In addition to this, the vehicle will certainly need more repairs compared to brand new one because it was previously used by its first owner and the broken or defective components of the vehicle would most likely break down by the time you were able to purchase it.

2013 Honda Accord Receives the New HondaLink Connectivity System

Honda has recently confirmed that the 2013 Honda Accord will be getting the company's latest connectivity system dubbed as the "HondaLink."  In addition to this, other car models such as the 2013 Honda Crosstour, the 2013 Honda Fit EV, and the upcoming Plug-in Hybrid version of the Accord will also be getting this system.

Based on the information provided by Honda, the HondaLink system will include a number of useful as well entertaining features such as the audible updates from on Twitter and Facebook, Internet-based radio stations like Pandora, and audiobooks. In addition to those, HondaLink also enables the company's customers to stay connected with other people, music that they want to listen to, and the different types of media that they like without the need to use their cellphones.

In order to provide more user-friendly functions, Honda's personnel especially those who are involved in the development of the company's technologies placed the audio controls of the HondaLink on the vehicle's dash and other controls on the steering wheel. Aside from that, this HondaLink is also equipped with the voice-recognition function that makes it more manageable to operate.

Aside from the functions mentioned earlier, HondaLink can also be had with a smartphone application that enables vehicle owners to manage the system's contents in their phones and use the stored information the next time they drive their cars.

Honda has also provided some hints that the HondaLink will be offered in two versions. The first version will be used on the 2013 Honda Accord as well as on the other gas-powered models that the company would be producing. This version offers the features provided earlier and possibly a number of additional items that Honda's engineers would be adding soon.

The second version of the system will be dubbed as the HondaLink EV system and this will be used on the hybrid and electric car models such as the upcoming version of the Accord Plug-in Hybrid and the 2013 Honda Fit EV. This version will still provide the features that were previously mentioned as well as added information about charging stations for EVs, the vehicle's driving range, and activate the vehicle's heater and air conditioning through the application created for the HondaLink EV system.

Now that Honda has finalized the use of the HondaLink in most of its models, this is expected to compete with the connectivity systems offered by other car makers particularly Hyundai's Blue Link, Ford's Sync, and Toyota's Entune.

7 Winter Driving Safety Tips for Fear of Driving in the Snow

It's back-to-school season, which means winter is fast approaching. If you have a fear of driving in the snow, it's a good time to brush up your skills with some winter driving safety tips.

  •     Good lights: Your headlights and taillights should be clear of snow. This will help other drivers to see you. Get a new set of headlight lenses if yours are old or sand-pitted. Make sure both headlights work and replace broken tail and running lights.
  •     Visibility: Make sure you can see well. Clean the outside and inside of your windows thoroughly. Replace any old windshield wiper blades. Apply a water-shedding material on the outside of all windows. This includes the mirrors. Your windshield washers should work well and be filled with anti-icing fluid.
  •     Tire check: Use snow tires (sometimes called "winter tires"). Adequate snow traction requires at least 6/32-inch deep tread. Summer tires have little or no grip in snow. "All-season" tires don't always have good snow traction either: If the roads where you live are regularly covered with snow, get snow tires.
  •     Check for black ice: If the road looks slick, it probably is, but black ice can make it slick without it looking that way. Also called "glare ice", drivers often don't see it at all. Feel for black ice instead with a smooth brake application or by turning the wheel slightly. Does the road feel slick? Then slow down.
  •     Make turns slowly: Many motorists have lost control of their cars along icy curves. Slow down. Speeding on slippery curves is one of the top 25 causes of car accidents. Make sure to drive the posted speed limit. Avoid an accident by driving cautiously.
  •     Reduce speed on snowy roads: Remember your vehicle can't slow down or stop rapidly on snowy roads. Turning performance is also decreased. On snow-covered roads there is significantly less friction between the road and your tires. Make sure to slow down if the road is snow packed.
  •     Avoid icy uphill driving: Try to not drive up steep hills when it's icy. If you can't avoid it, go up the hill slowly in 2nd gear. Steer around obstacles and use feather braking to keep your momentum. Don't stop until you've cleared the top of the hill.

We should all be more cautious driving in the snow. Fear of driving in the snow is healthy if it makes us drive more safely. It's a way of protecting ourselves and our fellow drivers. Thanks for taking winter driving safety seriously. It makes the roads safer for all of us.

Essential Tyre Safety Tips

Tyre maintenance is a matter of critical importance. As the only point of contact between the road and your vehicle, tyres largely determine how safe and stable your car is out on the road. Furthermore, the pressure placed on tyres over long periods can lead to a significant deterioration in quality, putting you or your family at risk.

Fortunately, there are some basic steps you can take to ensure that your tyres are road-safe and reliable. Following these tips will grant you peace-of-mind, improved on-road performance and a dramatic increase in vehicle safety.

Tyre Pressure
It may sound obvious, but if your tyres are not properly inflated then they will just not work as intended, leading to sub-optimal performance and safety. Under-inflated tyres also deteriorate much more quickly and lead to greater fuel consumption, which means a significant extra and unnecessary financial burden.

It's important that you check your tyres' pressure at least once a month and that you check the pressure when the tyres are cold in order to get an accurate reading. The correct pressure for your particular tyres will be outlined in the manufacturer's handbook or outlined on the tyres themselves, so make sure you follow the right guidelines and always have tyre pressure in the back of your mind when starting your journey.

Tread Depth
A more serious safety risk arises when your tyres' tread depth is at an unsafe level. The minimum legal tread depth is 1.6mm, although it's generally advised that anything less than 2mm is unnecessarily risky. Tread depth plays a pivotal role in braking distance, especially in adverse weather conditions, so if your tread depth is insufficient you're at substantial risk of being involved in an accident.
Checking tread depth is simple. Take a 20p coin and insert it into your tyre tread. If you can see the outer band of the coin protruding from the tyre, then the depth is dangerously low, and you should consider replacing your tyres as soon as possible. Unlike tyre pressure, tread depth cannot be remedied through a trip to the air pump.

Tyre Condition
Perhaps the most obvious indicator of wear is the external quality of the tyres. If there are nails or other objects protruding from the tyre wall, then it's essential to remove them and check for significant damage. Also, look closely for evidence of cuts, cracks or bulges, especially on the sidewalls.
